Kolkata, August 1, 2025: Passenger Slaps Co-Traveller on IndiGo Flight 6E138; Declared ‘Unruly’ and Handed Over to Security at Kolkata Airport

A dramatic incident unfolded on IndiGo flight 6E138 from Mumbai to Kolkata on Friday when a passenger suddenly slapped a fellow traveler mid-journey. The altercation, which left the victim in tears, occurred while the aircraft was in operation, though it remains unclear whether it happened during takeoff or mid-flight.

Eyewitnesses onboard the IndiGo flight reported that a man, seated in his assigned seat, unexpectedly turned and slapped another passenger. The shocked co-passenger began crying, prompting crew members and other travelers to intervene. The accused was soon removed from his seat and restrained until the flight landed safely at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata.

Upon arrival, IndiGo staff immediately handed over the accused to the airport security team for further investigation. The airline has officially classified the individual as an “unruly passenger,” in line with DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) guidelines. However, IndiGo has yet to release an official statement regarding the motive or circumstances surrounding the assault.

This latest incident adds to a growing list of in-flight disturbances reported across Indian air carriers, raising concerns about passenger safety, in-flight behavior, and the enforcement of aviation security protocols.
